Medieval Ancestors
of Mary Ligon b. 1752 in Virginia
edieval History is one of the hardest aspects of genealogical research that I have tried to unweave. (I have learned to spell Medieval without looking it up every time.) However, I have found that once you tie into one of these medieval lines, it is a straight shot back to nobility & royalty. It is a never ending project. There are old manuscripts being found & translated continuously that lead us to even more fascinating facts about our Medieval Ancestors.
As you trace your ancestry back to Medieval times you will weave in and out like a fine tapestry, overlapping many times over with the same ancestors placed in various areas of your pedigree.
As you keep digging you may find such notables as "Old King Cole", William the Conqueror, Charlemagne, Joan of Arc (Jeanne d'Arc), Kings of the Holy Roman Empire and on and on. The trick is finding which one is "yours" and if you truly can tie into the lineage. The LDS church on their site familysearch.org has done extensive research tying these lineages together.
Gayle Blankenship in her book "Royal and Noble Families of Medieval Europe" has done an excellent job tying up the loose ends of the Ligon family and their Medieval Ancestors.
Although this is not my main focus of interest I have actually (quite by accident) been able to find at least 3 links from our various family trees that take us back to the Medieval Records. These particular pages are dedicated to the Agee-Ligon connection.
When Matthew Agee (b.1747 in Goochland, Virginia) married (1772 Franklin, Virginia) Mary Ligon (b.1752 in Goochland, Virginia) it took us straight into Medieval Europe and Royalty. In some cases not so Royal, but Noble nevertheless. We sometimes descend from a concubine and not the Queen--or wife #1 which ever the case may be.
